Juwet

That day, i did market watch in not one but three markets. In the second one, I find this black beauty: juwet which local people call jambu hitam. I had one tree growing in our front yard in Jalan Argopuro. So after years, perhaps like a decde not eating this, I bought a plastic full of Syzygium cumini fruit in Alor.

Fowl Play

I saw an Indian peacock roamed in the garden of Capella. A strange sight indeed. Curious, I asked the doorman about the beautiful fowl. “It is tame and released in the morning. It will be caught in the afternoon,” said he. How cool is that!

A postcard explains, peacocks were a common sight on the island. It doesn’t explain, however, why they are not a common sight now. Arguably, it is due to rapid yet massive conversion of the island into resorts, theme parks, and residences. Admirably, peacocks are “reintroduced”: released in the morning, caught in the afternoon. An exciting way of birdwatching, if you will.
